The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agent guard Cam Thomas, who was recently waived by the Brooklyn Nets. Thomas, 24, has averaged over 21 points per game over the past three seasons and will look to provide an offensive spark for the Bucks as they try to climb back into playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
Why it matters
The Bucks have struggled to find consistent scoring outside of Giannis Antetokounmpo this season, and the addition of Thomas could help fill that void. As a young, talented scorer, Thomas has the potential to develop into a key piece alongside Antetokounmpo if he can find his rhythm in Milwaukee.
The details
Thomas was waived by the Brooklyn Nets after the trade deadline last week in a somewhat surprising move. The 6-foot-3 guard has struggled with his shooting efficiency, hitting just 40% from the field and 33% from 3-point range over his career. However, his scoring ability will be a welcome addition for the Bucks, who have found it difficult to generate offense whenever Antetokounmpo is off the floor.
- Thomas was waived by the Brooklyn Nets last Thursday, the trade deadline.
- Thomas agreed to a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
The players
Cam Thomas
A 24-year-old guard who was recently waived by the Brooklyn Nets after spending his entire career with the team since being drafted 27th overall in 2021.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
The star forward for the Milwaukee Bucks who is currently recovering from a right calf strain.
Doc Rivers
The head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
What they’re saying
“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me, and they told me they've been interested for years now. So, it's good to have this opportunity come to fruition. And I'm just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybod, and contribute as soon as possible.”

What’s next
The judge in the case will decide on Tuesday whether or not to allow Walker Reed Quinn out on bail.
The takeaway
This signing represents a low-risk, high-upside move for the Bucks as they try to bolster their offense and make a push for the playoffs. If Thomas can find his scoring touch, he could develop into a valuable complementary piece alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo.
