Kingsley Enagbare has provided value as a rotational edge defender for the Green Bay Packers over the past four seasons, but the stats indicate the team should not prioritize re-signing him. While Enagbare has been a reliable run defender, his pass rushing production has declined each year and he has never been an above-average pass rusher compared to his peers. With the Packers facing salary cap constraints, it may be best for them to let the former fifth-round pick test free agency.
Why it matters
Enagbare's potential contract extension would be affordable, but the Packers need to carefully manage their limited cap space. Keeping Enagbare could prevent younger players with more upside from getting opportunities to develop and contribute. The team needs to weigh Enagbare's run defense value against his lack of impact as a pass rusher.
The details
Since entering the league in 2022, Enagbare has ranked in the 74th percentile among qualified edge defenders in tackles per run defense snap, and has improved to the 87th percentile over the last three years. He has also been above average in stop rate and missed tackle rate. However, Enagbare has struggled as a pass rusher, ranking in just the 27th percentile in sacks per pass rush snap since 2022. Even in true pass-rushing situations, he has only ranked in the 24th percentile in PFF's pass rush productivity metric. Enagbare's pass rushing production has also declined each year, dropping from the 46th percentile in quarterback hurries per snap between 2022-2023 to the 29th percentile from 2024-2025.
- Enagbare's rookie contract with the Packers expires in 2026.
The players
Kingsley Enagbare
A rotational edge defender who has played for the Green Bay Packers since 2022.
The takeaway
While Enagbare has provided value as a run defender, his lack of impact as a pass rusher and declining production in that area make him an unlikely priority for the salary cap-strapped Packers to re-sign. The team may be better served allowing Enagbare to test free agency and focusing on developing younger players with more upside.
