Wa-Hi JROTC Cadet Competes at National Championships

Walla Walla High School Cadet Major Claire Calvert recently competed in the All-Service JROTC National Championship at Camp Perry in Ohio, becoming the first individual shooter from her school to qualify for the event in approximately two decades. Calvert, representing the Army JROTC Precision Rifle Team, placed in the top half of more than 200 of the nation's elite marksmen.

Calvert posted strong scores of 195 in kneeling and 199 in prone on the opening day of the two-day match. She finished the competition with a combined score of 1150. Wa-Hi Rifle Coach Mark Mebes noted that the level of competition at the national championships was higher than anything the team had faced during their regular season.
