The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) has released its 2025/26 Sorghum Quality Report, which shows that for the seventh consecutive year, U.S. sorghum has been graded above the requirements for U.S. No. 1 certification on average. The report, funded by the USDA and United Sorghum Checkoff Program, provides detailed data on the quality of the latest U.S. sorghum crop based on samples collected from across the country.

Why it matters

The USGBC report serves as an important resource for global grain buyers, demonstrating the consistently high quality of U.S. sorghum exports. This helps maintain the reputation of U.S. sorghum as a trusted and reliable agricultural product in international markets.

The details

The 2025/26 Sorghum Quality Report analyzed 102 samples collected from 18 participating elevators and one farmer in the central and southern U.S. regions, which account for nearly all U.S. sorghum exports. Key findings include total sorghum damage at 0.1%, no heat damage, 11.6% protein content, 72.8% starch concentration, and 3.5% oil content. Tannins were also absent from the samples for the seventh consecutive year.
