Washington State Parks to Build More Cabins at Riverside State Park

The $400,000 project will add two more cabins to the popular Bowl and Pitcher area.

Published on Mar. 8, 2026

Washington State Parks officials plan to build two more small cabins in Riverside State Park, according to plans submitted to the city of Spokane. The project is the second phase of an identical project completed in 2018, and will add air conditioning units to all four cabins. The cabins are located in the Bowl and Pitcher area of the park and are popular with campers for their access to trails, a suspension bridge, and unique rock formations.

Why it matters

The addition of these cabins will provide more overnight accommodation options for visitors to Riverside State Park, one of the most popular outdoor recreation areas in the Spokane region. The cabins offer a unique camping experience compared to traditional tent sites and RV hookups, appealing to a wider range of park users.

The details

The $400,000 project will add two more 400-square-foot cabins identical to the two built in the first phase. The cabins can be rented year-round for $90 to $125 per night. Funding for the new cabins came from a Recreation and Conservation Office grant. Seattle-based EHDD Architecture designed the buildings.

  • The first two cabins were completed in October 2018.
  • Construction on the new cabins is anticipated to begin this year.
