We set out to see if the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, designed and outfitted for aggressive driving in the dirt and mud, could also handle everyday driving. The conclusion is that the off-road capabilities did not compromise the Mach-E Rally's on-road driving attributes, and it only slightly impacted efficiency. With impressive power, range, and handling, the Mach-E Rally proved to be a capable and versatile electric vehicle.
Why it matters
The Mustang Mach-E Rally highlights Ford's efforts to expand the Mustang brand beyond just traditional sports cars, offering an all-electric, off-road-capable version that can still excel on the highway. This demonstrates the growing versatility of electric vehicles and Ford's commitment to delivering high-performance, adventure-ready models to appeal to a wider range of customers.
The details
Our 1,050-mile drive of the Mach-E Rally was mostly on the highway, with some time on winding roads. The vehicle's three driver-selectable modes - Whisper (Eco), Engage (Medium), and Unbridled (Sport) - allowed us to optimize performance for different driving conditions. The 480 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque (or 700 lb-ft with the Performance Upgrade) provided impressive acceleration, with 0-60 mph times as low as 3.3 seconds. The Mach-E Rally's weight balance, suspension, and tires delivered confident and predictable handling on the road.
- We drove the Mach-E Rally from Southern California to the Monterey Bay area in late February 2026.

What’s next
Once Pacific Coast Highway reopens, the author plans to drive the Mach-E Rally on the 'up Highway 101 and down Highway 1' loop, which they were unable to do on this trip.
The takeaway
The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally demonstrates that electric vehicles can deliver both high-performance off-road capabilities and excellent on-road driving dynamics, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of driving needs and adventures.
