Costco has expanded its partnership with Phobio to offer an online trade-in program that allows members to recycle their old electronics in exchange for Costco gift cards. The program, which launched in 2019, makes it easy for Costco shoppers to responsibly dispose of unwanted devices while earning store credit.
Why it matters
This initiative aligns with Costco's commitment to sustainability and providing value-added services for its loyal membership base. By incentivizing electronics recycling, Costco is making it simpler for consumers to adopt more eco-friendly habits while also driving additional in-store traffic and sales.
The details
Through the online trade-in portal, Costco members can receive quotes and ship their old smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other electronics to Phobio for evaluation. Depending on the device's condition, customers will then receive a Costco Shop Card in the corresponding amount, which can be used towards future purchases at any Costco location.
