Killington Resort and Pico Mountain participated in National Safety Month throughout January and early February, hosting activities and partnering with the Snow Angel Foundation to promote on-mountain safety. This included burrito giveaways, speaking engagements, and a fundraising auction that raised over $1,400 for the foundation.
Why it matters
Killington is one of the largest ski resorts in the Eastern United States, and promoting on-mountain safety is crucial for protecting both skiers/riders and the resort's reputation. The partnership with the Snow Angel Foundation, founded by a father who lost his daughter in a tragic ski collision, brings a personal and impactful perspective to these safety initiatives.
The details
Killington hosted burrito giveaways at the top of the Snowdon Six Express on select Saturdays, where Patrol and Mountain Safety teams spoke directly to guests about safer skiing and riding. They also hosted a burrito giveaway at the base of Pico Mountain where the Snow Angel Foundation's founder, Chauncy Johnson, spoke about his experience. In total, over 1,300 burritos were given away, and guests signed up for a gear sweepstakes from Killington partner Mammut. Johnson also conducted speaking engagements at local schools and with Killington/Pico staff. On February 6th, Johnson hosted an auction inside the K-1 Lodge that raised over $1,400 for the Snow Angel Foundation, with Killington donating an additional $5,000.
