The Hartford High School girls basketball team won the Division II state championship, defeating Lamoille 37-20 to end a 14-year title drought. Senior Charlotte Jasmin led all scorers with 15 points as Hartford's stifling defense proved to be the difference.
Why it matters
Hartford's victory marks the end of a long championship drought for the program and the culmination of a successful high school career for star player Charlotte Jasmin, who finishes as the fifth all-time leading scorer in state history. The win also denied Lamoille a chance at an undefeated season.
The details
Hartford controlled the game from the start, using its strong defense to force Lamoille turnovers and limit the Lancers to just 10 points in each half. Despite Lamoille making a run to cut the deficit to 20-17 in the third quarter, Hartford pulled away late, going on a 17-3 run to seal the victory. Jasmin and fellow senior Hailey Vanasse combined for 13 of those final 17 points.
- The championship game was played on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Barre Auditorium.
- Hartford last won a girls basketball state title 14 years ago.

What they’re saying
“This is the best way to end. I didn't want to leave this gym tonight being like 'Man I could have done better, we could have won it.' We came in here from tipoff and knew this is what we wanted.”
— Charlotte Jasmin, Senior (Yahoo Sports)
“There were a lot of similarities, it's insane how many. I'm so happy for these kids and our community, it's amazing. I won't know for a couple of days (how I feel).”
— Steve Landon, Head Coach (Yahoo Sports)
“That zone they have is well put together. We struggled to attack it tonight, but that was a credit to their defense.”
— Greg Davis Jr., Head Coach (Yahoo Sports)
What’s next
The Hartford boys basketball team, the No. 1 seed in Division II, has also advanced to the state semifinals and will be playing in Barre later this week.
The takeaway
Hartford's championship victory not only ends a 14-year drought for the girls program, but also highlights the strength of the school's basketball teams as a whole, with the boys squad also making a deep playoff run. The win cements Charlotte Jasmin's legacy as one of the greatest players in Vermont girls basketball history.
