Fred and Casey Weymouth, a couple who once struggled with addiction themselves, have started a residential recovery and discipleship program called The Fix in a remote area of Virginia. The program not only helps people overcome substance abuse, but also leads them to faith in Jesus. What started as a simple outreach of sharing biscuits and the Gospel with the homeless in Richmond has grown into a church plant in the Virginia pine forest, where new believers are being baptized and discipled.
Why it matters
The Weymouths' story highlights the power of redemption and the ability of the Gospel to transform lives, even those deeply impacted by addiction. Their ministry provides a model for how the church can reach those on the margins of society and minister to their spiritual and physical needs in a holistic way.
The details
The Fix is located 46 miles from downtown Richmond, in a secluded 30-acre property in the Virginia pine forest. The Weymouths started the program to help people struggling with drugs, alcohol, and homelessness, drawing on their own past experiences. They began by simply sharing biscuits and the Gospel with the homeless in Richmond, which led to a Bible study. As some of those they ministered to came to faith, the Weymouths prayed about how to help them get clean and stay sober. Generous donors provided the remote property, which has proven helpful in keeping residents from returning to their old lives on the streets. At The Fix, residents receive traditional addiction treatment as well as discipleship, job training, and opportunities to serve the local community.

What they’re saying
“We'd been through every 12-step program you can think of, but nothing worked until Jesus. So, we were like, 'Okay, we're going to go and share the gospel with everybody we can.'”
— Casey Weymouth, Co-founder, The Fix (Baptist Press)
“We just wanted to share the Gospel with everybody we could, so we started taking breakfast to some of our old friends living under a freeway overpass in downtown Richmond.”
— Fred Weymouth, Co-founder, The Fix (Baptist Press)
What’s next
The Weymouths plan to continue expanding The Fix's residential program and church plant, helping more people find freedom from addiction through the power of the Gospel.
The takeaway
