The Northern High School girls basketball team won its first game in the Western Maryland Athletic Conference (WestMAC) season, defeating Mountain Ridge 65-64 on Friday. Abby Nelson scored a game-high 25 points for the Huskies. Meanwhile, the No. 3 ranked Petersburg High School girls team extended its winning streak to 7 games with a 66-33 victory over Pendleton County on Saturday. Miley Tingler, Karlie DiBenedetto, Ayden Mayfield, and Shyane Tawney all scored in double figures for Petersburg.

In the Northern-Mountain Ridge game, Abby Nelson scored 18 of her 25 points in the first half to lead the Huskies to victory. Allahna Lacy added 14 points and Veda Rebuck scored 13. For Mountain Ridge, Kealana Pua'auli had a team-high 19 points with 4 three-pointers. In the Petersburg game, the Vikings jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 37-16 at halftime. Miley Tingler led Petersburg with 15 points, while Karlie DiBenedetto had 13, Ayden Mayfield scored 12, and Shyane Tawney finished with 11. Petersburg made 8 three-pointers in the game, with Mayfield hitting 4 and DiBenedetto making 3.
