Fairfax Route 29 Lane Closures Begin For Widening Project

The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced upcoming lane closures on Route 29 in Fairfax for a widening project. Northbound Route 29 will experience single-lane closures between Union Mill Road/Centreville Farms Drive and Summit Drive/Buckleys Gate Drive, while southbound Route 29 will have single-lane closures between Sandy Point Lane and Stringfellow Road/Clifton Road. The lane closures will occur on weekdays from March 9 through April 3.

The Route 29 widening project aims to improve safety, traffic flow, and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians in the area. The project will reconstruct and widen 1.5 miles of roadway from four to six lanes, correct vertical alignment to enhance sight distance, and add shared-use paths on both sides of Route 29.

The details

The northbound Route 29 lane closures are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, from March 9 through April 2, with a shorter closure on Friday, April 3, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The southbound Route 29 lane closures are planned for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, from March 9 through March 13, and again from March 16 through March 20.
