The Danville Hawks have hired Blake Beam as their new head football coach, replacing Andro Williams who was let go in December after five seasons. Beam was most recently the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Fayette County High School, and has also had coaching stops at Arab, Boaz and Helena High School. Danville Principal Brian Ellis said Beam fit all the criteria the school was looking for in a new head coach, and that he believes Beam can help build the program's culture and lead the Hawks to future success.
Why it matters
Danville's football program has struggled in recent years, with the team's last winning season coming in 2009 and only four playoff appearances since 2000. The hiring of Beam represents an opportunity for the Hawks to turn things around and build a winning culture under new leadership.
The details
Blake Beam was announced on Tuesday as the ninth head football coach in Danville's history. He replaces former coach Andro Williams, who was let go in December after five seasons in which he had a 16-35 record with one playoff appearance. Danville Principal Brian Ellis said the school is 'excited to have coach Beam' and believes he will 'do a great job of building relationships with our kids and teaching valuable lessons through the sport of football.' Beam said he sees 'a ton of potential' in Danville and is confident he can get the players to 'buy in and work hard' to help the team compete.
