Due to ongoing snow and frigid temperatures, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) will have students engage in synchronous virtual learning with their teachers on Friday, January 30. All ACPS buildings and offices will be closed to in-person learning and activities, with only essential personnel required to report to work if safe to do so.

Why it matters

This decision by ACPS reflects the district's efforts to prioritize student and staff safety during inclement weather conditions that make in-person learning and transportation hazardous. The shift to virtual learning aims to maintain educational continuity while ensuring the community's well-being.

The details

Students will participate in live virtual instruction via Zoom as well as independent work. Teachers will also provide virtual office hours. Families should check their student's Canvas or Clever account by 8 a.m. for details on their child's schedule. Due to the school closures, the posting of grades has been delayed, and families will be notified when the new grade posting timeline is determined.
