Community program provides firsthand look at essential local services

The Leadership Washington class participated in a day-long tour to gain insight into the essential city and county government services that keep the community running. The group visited the Washington County Emergency Operations Center, 9-1-1 center, jail, and sheriff's office, as well as Washington City Hall, the police and fire departments, and the county ambulance service.

The Leadership Washington program aims to educate community members about the inner workings of local government and the critical roles played by public safety, emergency response, and other municipal services. Providing this hands-on experience helps foster a greater understanding and appreciation for the professionals who serve the community.
The details
During the City and County Government Day, the Leadership Washington class received tours and briefings on the operations of the Washington County Emergency Operations Center, 9-1-1 dispatch, the county jail, and the sheriff's office. They then traveled to Washington City Hall to meet with municipal officials and learn about city-level services, visiting the police and fire departments to see emergency response procedures firsthand. The day concluded with a stop at the Washington County Ambulance Service.
