Mar. 10, 2026 at 4:22am

The Lady Spartan softball team from Emery High School traveled to Vernal, Utah to compete in the Uintah Tournament over the weekend. They faced off against the host team Uintah Utes and the Skyridge Falcons, but were unable to secure a win, falling 13-3 to Uintah and 10-9 to Skyridge.

Why it matters

The Lady Spartans had a successful 22-13 season last year, going 12-2 in region play, before falling in the quarterfinals. This tournament marks the start of their 2026 campaign as they look to build on that momentum and make another deep playoff run.

The details

Against Uintah, the Lady Spartans took an early 1-0 lead but the Utes responded with three runs in the third inning and nine more in the fourth to pull away. Emery scored two runs in the fifth but it wasn't enough. In the Skyridge game, the Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Lady Spartans chipped away at the deficit, eventually getting within one run at 10-9 in the sixth inning before falling short.
