Tooele City, in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation, is proposing several safety improvements to the intersection of SR-36 (Tooele Main Street) and Skyline Drive. The plans include installing a new traffic signal, creating a raised median to restrict left turns, and adding crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.

Why it matters

The proposed changes are intended to address traffic conflicts and improve driver awareness in order to work towards UDOT's goal of zero crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Utah roads. The intersection has seen its share of accidents, and the new infrastructure aims to make the area safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

The details

The project would install a raised median from the south end of Main Street to past the Go-Fer gas station, restricting left turns and access to the gas station. A new traffic signal would also be added at the Skyline Drive and Main Street intersection, along with crosswalks on the north and east sides to improve pedestrian access. The changes would require closing the southern driveway of the Sunny Daycare, but the northern entrance would remain open.

  • The proposed improvements are currently under review, with a public hearing request deadline of February 18, 2026.
