A shorthanded BYU squad held off a spirited upset bid by CU, as the Buffs lost a gut-wrenching 90-86 overtime decision at the Marriott Center. Despite the effort, it was CU's ninth loss in the past 11 games and its 25th consecutive loss in a true road game against a team ranked in the Associated Press Top 25.
Why it matters
The loss continues a frustrating stretch for the Colorado Buffaloes, who have struggled on the road this season against ranked opponents. BYU, meanwhile, was able to hold on for the victory despite playing most of the game without their star player Richie Saunders, who went down with an injury early.
The details
CU led by as many as six points in the second half, but BYU was able to rally and tie the game late to force overtime. In the extra session, BYU's Mihailo Boskovic hit a key 3-pointer to give the Cougars the lead for good. The Buffs had several chances to tie it but couldn't convert.
- Richie Saunders went down with a leg injury 45 seconds into the game and didn't return.
