The Brooks Cascadia Elite is the brand’s first entry into the trail supershoe category, featuring a high stack height, PEBA midsole foam, and a carbon-infused PEBAX plate. Testers Sam and Jen found it to be a stable, consistent, and versatile option for long trail runs, though it may lack some of the excitement and responsiveness of competitors. The shoe’s broad platform and unisex fit make it well-suited for runners with wider feet, while those with narrower feet may experience some lateral instability, especially on technical terrain.
Why it matters
The Cascadia Elite represents Brooks’ foray into the growing trail supershoe market, which includes options from Hoka, Terrex, ASICS, and On. As more runners seek maximally cushioned and responsive trail shoes for long-distance racing and training, the Cascadia Elite offers a stable and consistent ride that could appeal to a wide range of runners, from elites to everyday trail enthusiasts.
The details
The Cascadia Elite features a 39.85mm heel / 33.85mm forefoot stack height, a broad 100mm heel / 90mm midfoot platform, and weighs 9.7oz / 276g for a men’s US9. Its midsole uses Brooks’ DNA Gold PEBA foam with a carbon-infused PEBAX plate. The Vibram Megagrip Elite outsole provides excellent traction, though it can be noisy on hard surfaces. The Matryx mesh upper is lightweight, breathable, and durable, with a generous fit and secure hold.
- The Cascadia Elite will be available in March 2026.
The players
Brooks
An American running shoe company that is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.
Vibram
An Italian company that manufactures high-performance rubber outsoles for footwear.
What they’re saying
“Brooks has created a max cushion ultra shoe for elites.. and for the rest of us much as with their Hyperion Elite 5 road marathon shoe.”
— Sam Winebaum, Tester (roadtrailrun.com)
“I was so ready to love this shoe, and given the success Brooks athletes had with it last year, I thought it might be perfect for Canyons 100k this spring. That might be true for many people, but alas, I’m not one of them.”
— Jen Schmidt, Tester (roadtrailrun.com)
What’s next
Brooks plans to release a women’s-specific version of the Cascadia Elite in the future, which may address the fit issues experienced by some testers with narrower feet.
The takeaway
The Brooks Cascadia Elite offers a stable, consistent, and versatile ride that could appeal to a wide range of trail runners, from elites to everyday enthusiasts. While it may lack some of the excitement and responsiveness of competitors, its broad platform and generous fit make it well-suited for runners with wider feet seeking a maximally cushioned trail shoe for long-distance training and racing.
