The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has announced two new safety projects for the US-6 highway connecting Spanish Fork and Helper. The projects include widening the highway from two to four lanes, adding a center median barrier, flattening curves, and upgrading the US-6/US-89 intersection to make it free-flowing by lowering US-89 to pass underneath US-6.
Why it matters
These infrastructure improvements are part of UDOT's larger $110 million plan to enhance safety and travel along the US-6 corridor, which has seen a history of serious accidents. The changes aim to reduce the risk of head-on collisions and make it easier for drivers to enter and exit the highway.
The details
The first project will widen US-6 from two to four lanes starting near Sheep Creek Road, add a center median barrier, flatten curves, and improve the intersection. The second project will upgrade the US-6/US-89 intersection by lowering US-89 so it can pass underneath US-6, creating a free-flowing interchange.
