Arizona State men's basketball looks to work its way up to bubble

Sun Devils need to win next two road games in Texas to stay in NCAA Tournament conversation

Published on Mar. 1, 2026

The Arizona State Sun Devils have won back-to-back conference games for the first time in their still-young Big 12 history. They will look to build on that with two games in Texas, the first against a struggling Baylor team that has lost four straight games. ASU is coming off a 72-67 upset of No. 13 Texas Tech, led by the 23-point showing of senior point guard Moe Odum.

Why it matters

If ASU can put together a win streak, it could work its way back to the bubble conversation just because of the opponents left. ASU has five games left, two against foes below them in the standings and one that it is on par with. Then there are two games against top teams (Kansas, Iowa State). If ASU wins at least one of those, it would aid its cause.

The details

The Sun Devils are coming off a 72-67 upset of No. 13 Texas Tech, led by the 23-point showing of senior point guard Moe Odum. Most of ASU's conference wins came against teams they were expected to beat or at least on par with. The win over Texas Tech marked the first win over one of the teams in the top tier of the conference. ASU has tended to falter in the last few minutes of a game, which cost the team in losses to Central Florida and Colorado, and nearly happened against Texas Tech. The Sun Devils have been short-handed in recent games and could benefit if guard Bryce Ford is able to play after being sidelined with a hip flexor injury.

  • The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST on Feb. 21 in Waco, Texas.
  • This will be the first game between the teams this season. They played one last season, that game being in Tempe, and won by the Bears, 72-66 in overtime.
  • ASU has five games left in the regular season before the Big 12 tournament.

The players

Moe Odum

The senior point guard led ASU with 23 points in the upset win over Texas Tech.

Bryce Ford

The ASU guard has been sidelined with a hip flexor injury and could return for the upcoming games.

What’s next

If ASU wins at least one of the games against top teams Kansas and Iowa State, it would aid its cause for making the NCAA Tournament.

The takeaway

Arizona State's men's basketball team is looking to build on its recent success and work its way back into the NCAA Tournament conversation by winning its next two road games in Texas against Baylor and potentially upsetting one of the conference's top teams down the stretch.
