Published on Feb. 9, 2026

Tyler Legacy's softball team is gearing up for its second season under head coach Sam Weeks. The Lady Raiders, who went 6-19 last year, will open the 2026 season on Tuesday against Nacogdoches. With no seniors on the roster, the young Lady Raiders squad is focused on improving their mental toughness and minimizing errors as they look to grow together over the next few years.

Why it matters

Tyler Legacy's softball program is in a rebuilding phase, looking to build off a tough 6-19 season last year. With a youthful roster and a new head coach, the team is focused on developing a winning culture and mindset as they aim to compete in a challenging District 10-6A.

The details

The Lady Raiders have four returning players from last season, including standout shortstop ReNaa Hicks who hit .527 with 39 hits, 32 stolen bases and 37 runs scored. Catchers Hadison Maxey and Haley Tucker are also back, with Tucker expected to play either corner infield or second base. Sophomore Felicity Hartley, coming off an ACL injury, is expected to be the team's top pitcher as well as provide a strong bat in the lineup. The Lady Raiders also have two freshmen, Mia Mendez and Alyssa Baldwin, joining the varsity squad.

What they’re saying

“We have spent a lot of time this fall working on mental toughness and building our culture. The girls have done a really good job of buying into that. We've worked on trying to minimize errors. If we make a mistake, don't dwell on it or let it roll over and affect the next play.”

“We have a lot of new faces on varsity this year. We do not have any seniors this season, so this group will really be able to grow together over the next few years. Everyone has been working extremely hard and they are buying into the new culture we have created. I am super excited to see what all this great group of young ladies can accomplish together this year.”
