Sam Houston head football coach Jeremy Williams was named to a similar position at West Mesquite on Thursday. Williams led the Hurricanes to a 23-20 record and three playoff appearances in four seasons, including a 6-0 district title run in 2025 despite playing up a classification.

Why it matters

The move brings Williams closer to home as he replaces Stephen Jackson, who led West Mesquite to a 22-3 record in two seasons before departing for Lancaster. Williams was previously the offensive coordinator at YMLA and defensive coordinator at Sam Houston before becoming the Hurricanes' head coach.

The details

In 2025, Sam Houston was 6-5 overall and won the District 12-5A-II title with a 6-0 run, an impressive feat considering the Hurricanes played up a classification despite having enrollment for Class 4A. The Hurricanes are expected to continue playing up for the next two seasons.
