Midland High, Legacy softball bring momentum into district

Midland High hosts Odessa Permian and Legacy visits San Angelo Central during Tuesday's District 2-6A softball openers.

The 2026 District 2-6A softball season will mark the end of an era as Wolfforth Frenship, which has won at least a share of the last four district titles, is heading down to Class 5A after the season. The five other District 2-6A teams will be aiming to spoil Frenship's title reign when the league campaign gets underway on Tuesday.

No. 8-ranked Midland High (21-3) hosts Odessa Permian (14-5-1), while Legacy (14-10) visits San Angelo Central (9-8) and Odessa High (11-11) visits Frenship (7-11) in Tuesday's opening games. Midland High is led by 2025 District 2-6A Pitcher of the Year Malyah Carrillo, 2025 co-District 2-6A Newcomer of the Year Ryleigh Thiebaud, Miami (Ohio) commit and two-way standout Kamryn Weir, and center fielder Marley Porter. Legacy brings back 2025 District 2-6A first team honoree Payton Brooks at pitcher and first base.
