Rachel Anglin has stepped down as the head volleyball coach of the Midland Legacy High School Lady Rebels after six successful seasons. Anglin, who was named the District 2-6A Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022, compiled a 156-75 record (.675 winning percentage) and led the Lady Rebels to the playoffs in all six of her seasons as head coach. Anglin cited family reasons, including raising two young children with her husband, as the primary factor behind her decision to step away from the program.
Why it matters
Anglin's departure is a significant loss for the Midland Legacy volleyball program, which had enjoyed tremendous success under her leadership. The Lady Rebels had reached the postseason in nine consecutive years, including back-to-back district titles in 2021 and 2022. Anglin's ability to build a winning culture and develop talented players made her one of the best coaches in the region.
The details
Anglin, a former UT-Permian Basin volleyball player, was hired as the head coach of the Lady Rebels in 2020 at the young age of 23 after serving as an assistant coach at Kennedale High School. She quickly proved her coaching abilities, earning District 2-6A Coach of the Year honors in 2021 and 2022 and being named the Reporter-Telegram's inaugural High School Volleyball Coach of the Year in 2022. Under Anglin's guidance, the Lady Rebels compiled a 156-75 record and won back-to-back district titles in 2021 and 2022.
- Anglin informed her Lady Rebels players of her decision to step down as head coach on March 5, 2026.
- Anglin coached the Midland Legacy volleyball team for six seasons, from 2020 to 2025.

Wes Torres
The Midland ISD Executive Director of Athletics, who praised Anglin's work with the Rebel volleyball program and noted that he was blessed to have her coach his daughter for four years.
What they’re saying
“There were lots of tears last Thursday when we had that meeting. Ultimately, it came down to my family. We have nobody out here, just me, my husband and our kids. As of right now, the plan is to be a stay-at-home mom unless an opportunity opens up to move up closer (to Dallas/Fort Worth area). All of our family lives in Dallas, so that's the goal eventually, to move closer that way. But after my second child, we decided it was best for our family to step down and reevaluate some things.”
— Rachel Anglin, Former Midland Legacy Volleyball Coach
“She is one of the best coaches we have. We're obviously extremely blessed to have her for such a long time. I'm proud of the work she has done with the Rebel volleyball program. We were blessed and I was blessed in a different way that she coached my daughter (Kyndall) for four years in volleyball. To see that firsthand, not only from an athletic director perspective but also as a parent was pretty special.”
— Wes Torres, Midland ISD Executive Director of Athletics
What’s next
Midland ISD has posted the Lady Rebels head coach opening on its website, and the district will begin the search for Anglin's replacement.
The takeaway
Anglin's departure is a significant loss for the Midland Legacy volleyball program, which had thrived under her leadership. However, her decision to step down and focus on her family is understandable, and the program she leaves behind is in a strong position to continue its success with the next head coach.
