Tenaris debuts Wedge 451 connection for Permian shale

New high-torque pipe connection designed for efficiency in slim Permian Basin wells

Published on Feb. 28, 2026

Tenaris has introduced a new threaded and coupled pipe connection called the TenarisHydrilWedge 451, designed to meet the demanding torque requirements and limited clearance of slim wells in the Permian Basin. The connection was developed in collaboration with a client and underwent rigorous testing to validate its performance. As part of Tenaris' RunReady service, the pipes are delivered ready-to-run with a pre-applied coating to enhance onshore operations efficiency.

Why it matters

Tenaris' new connection is an example of how oilfield service companies are continuously innovating to keep up with the evolving needs of Permian Basin operators, who are drilling in deeper formations and along the edges of core positions. The Wedge 451 provides a solution for increased torque requirements in slim well configurations, helping operators improve efficiency and productivity.

The details

The TenarisHydrilWedge 451 is an update to Tenaris' existing Wedge Series 400 portfolio, designed specifically for shale applications. The new connection was developed in response to a client's need for a tool with more torque capability. Tenaris' research and development team worked closely with the client to create a solution that meets the demanding torque requirements within the limited clearance of slim Permian Basin wells. To validate the connection's performance, it underwent a rigorous testing program under Tenaris' MultiFractured Horizontal Well protocol, including fatigue and frac cycles, liquid and gas testing, and limit-load evaluations.
