Fans to vote on top male and female high school athletes

The Midland Reporter-Telegram is honoring a male and female Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Midland Meat Company, based on online fan voting. Varsity coaches can submit nominations each week, and fans can vote at mrt.com/aotw from Monday at 8 a.m. to Wednesday at 3 p.m. Winners will be announced on Friday or in Saturday's print edition.
Why it matters
The Athlete of the Week program recognizes and celebrates the top high school athletic performances in the Midland area, helping to build community pride and interest in local sports.
The details
This week's nominees include Midland High's Jacoby Dutchover, who pitched a no-hitter and had a big offensive game, Legacy's Luke Galvan and Nic Moore, who excelled in baseball and track, respectively, as well as Legacy's Zayley Alvarado, Midland High's Hannah Krueger, and Andrews' Abigail Shaffer, who stood out in golf, swimming, and track.
- Voting opens each Monday at 8 a.m.
- Voting closes each Wednesday at 3 p.m.
- Winners are announced on Friday or in Saturday's print edition
The players
Jacoby Dutchover
A senior at Midland High who pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and had a three-home run, nine RBI performance.
Luke Galvan
A junior at Legacy who hit .524 with three doubles, eight runs scored, and three RBI, while also pitching five innings.
Nic Moore
A senior at Legacy who won three gold medals to lead his team to victory at the Max Goldsmith Relays.
Zayley Alvarado
A freshman at Legacy who won the Bob Easter Tall City Invitational golf tournament by 15 strokes.
Hannah Krueger
A senior at Midland High and Texas A&M signee who won the state title in the 100-yard freestyle with a school record time.
Abigail Shaffer
A freshman at Andrews who set new school records in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters at her first high school track meet.
