Guard Olivia Miles paced TCU with 20 points, six assists and four rebounds, while forward Marta Suarez and guard Donovyn Hunter each added 13 points. Kansas freshman forward Jaliya Davis scored a game-high 29 points and teammate S'Mya Nichols added 24, but the Jayhawks fell short as TCU held on for the victory.

Why it matters

TCU's home-winning streak is currently the best mark in the country, and the win keeps the Horned Frogs tied for first place in the Big 12 standings with Baylor. The game was a close battle, with TCU nearly losing the lead when multiple starters fouled out in the final minutes.

The details

TCU held the lead throughout the entire game, but nearly lost it when Suarez and starting center Clara Silva fouled out within 30 seconds of each other with about five minutes left and the Horned Frogs clinging to a 67-61 lead. Guard Olivia Miles also racked up five fouls at the 13-second mark. With Silva and Suarez on the bench, the Jayhawks cut the lead to 67-65 with 3:58 left, but TCU's bench stepped up to secure the victory.

What they’re saying

“This time of the year, you just got to grind these out and find ways to win. And at the halfway point, that gets us in a tie for first. And so this was a great battle. Wish we would execute a little bit better down the stretch.”

— Mark Campbell, TCU Head Coach

“I think it honestly helps us, especially as we get further into [the season] or closer to March, to understand what we need to do as players to step up when they're out. And also to realize we can't control what the refs call. So whoever it is on the bench or on the floor, all this just got to be ready to step up.”

— Donovyn Hunter, Guard

“She worked so hard, she loves the game, she wants to be great. She has shot thousands of shots preparing for these opportunities and moments.”

— Mark Campbell, TCU Head Coach

“Just proud of [Bielefeld] and proud of the way she fought. And just coming in off the bench and playing the way she did is really impressive.”

— Olivia Miles, Guard

What’s next

TCU will visit Lubbock for a top-25 battle against No. 21 Texas Tech (20-3, 7-3) on Sunday, Feb. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The takeaway

This game highlights the depth and resilience of the TCU women's basketball team, as they were able to overcome foul trouble and a late surge from Kansas to secure the victory and remain tied for first place in the Big 12 standings.
