The opening weekend of college baseball is in the books, and the results have led to an early shift in the SEC baseball power rankings. 11 SEC teams were included in D1Baseball's post-opening weekend top 25 rankings, with Vanderbilt dropping out after being ranked in the preseason. This shows the depth of the league in 2026. While there were no major upsets within the SEC, several teams like Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Missouri lost one game each over opening weekend.
Why it matters
The SEC is widely considered one of the top baseball conferences in the country, and these early power rankings provide a snapshot of how the league is shaping up after the first weekend of play. The results will likely lead to changes in next week's rankings as teams continue to jockey for position in the highly competitive conference.
The details
LSU, the defending national champions, opened the season with a series sweep over Milwaukee and top the initial SEC baseball power rankings. Texas, which swept UC Davis, is right behind the Tigers. Mississippi State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss round out the top eight. Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Alabama, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Missouri make up the bottom half of the rankings.

What’s next
Week 2 should be another fun one across the SEC, and will likely change next week's version of the SEC baseball power rankings. Of course, we'll get our first taste of midweek action, with some teams playing as early as Monday.
The takeaway
The SEC is once again shaping up to be one of the deepest and most competitive baseball conferences in the country, with 14 of the 16 teams realistically in contention for a regional appearance in 2026. The early power rankings provide a glimpse into the league's landscape, but there will surely be plenty more changes in the coming weeks as teams continue to jockey for position.
