Fluor Corporation has been awarded a multi-year contract by Centrus Energy's subsidiary, American Centrifuge Operating, LLC, to serve as the integrated engineering, procurement and construction partner for the expansion of Centrus' low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio.
Why it matters
This project will help re-establish a domestic low and high-assay uranium enrichment capability in the United States, which is critical for supporting existing nuclear reactors and the next generation of advanced nuclear reactors. The expansion is expected to create over 1,300 Ohio jobs during construction and operation, contributing to local economic growth.
The details
Fluor will lead the engineering and design of the expanded capacity, manage the supply chain and procurement, oversee construction, and support the commissioning of the new capacity. The project is part of a multi-billion dollar public and private investment plan to add thousands of additional centrifuges at Centrus' American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon.
