Freedom Alliance, in partnership with U.S. Bank, presented U.S. Army Specialist Michael Villagran with a new, payment-free vehicle in recognition of his military service and sacrifice. Villagran, who lost his right leg below the knee in 2016 after sustaining severe injuries from an IED explosion in Afghanistan, has since excelled in adaptive sports and is a member of the U.S. National Para Skeleton Team.

Why it matters

This vehicle donation is part of Freedom Alliance and U.S. Bank's ongoing efforts to honor service members for their dedication and personal sacrifice. The vehicle represents freedom, opportunity, and support for Villagran and his family as he continues his recovery and athletic pursuits.

The details

Villagran grew up in the Chicago area and joined the U.S. Army after high school, driven by a desire to serve something larger than himself. In February 2012, he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, where his unit faced daily enemy fire. During a mission to reclaim a village police station from the Taliban, he stepped on an IED, sustaining severe injuries to his foot and ankle. After multiple surgeries, he ultimately lost his right leg below the knee in 2016.
