According to reports, Texas A&M is one of the schools in the mix to land Georgetown transfer guard KJ Lewis. Lewis, an El Paso native, averaged 14.9 points and 2.1 steals per game for the Hoyas last season and would provide the Aggies with a veteran backcourt presence to complement their up-tempo system under coach Bucky McMillan.
Why it matters
The Aggies are looking to reload their roster through the transfer portal after making the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year. Landing a proven scorer and defender like Lewis would be a major boost as they try to sustain their recent success.
The details
With guards Josh Holloway and Ruben Dominguez entering the portal, Texas A&M needs to add 3-4 impact players through the transfer market. Along with needing more size in the frontcourt, the Aggies are prioritizing finding a veteran guard who fits their fast-paced style. Lewis, an All-Big East selection last season, would seemingly fill that need with his ability to drive the paint and play strong defense.
- The 2026 college basketball transfer portal opened on April 8.
- The portal will close on April 21, giving players just over two weeks to enter their names.
The players
KJ Lewis
A former Georgetown guard and El Paso, Texas native who averaged 14.9 points and 2.1 steals per game last season, making the All-Big East team.
Bucky McMillan
The head coach of the Texas A&M men's basketball team, who has led the Aggies to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
Josh Holloway
A Texas A&M guard who has entered the transfer portal after the 2025-26 season.
Ruben Dominguez
A Texas A&M guard who has entered the transfer portal after breaking the school's single-game three-point shooting record earlier this season.
Marcus Hill
A senior guard for Texas A&M who is expected to return next season barring any eligibility issues.
What they’re saying
“Former Georgetown guard KJ Lewis was an All-Big East selection this season for the Hoyas, averaging nearly 15 PPG. The first school that I was told to watch once he declared his intentions to enter the portal was St. John's, however, plenty of others will likely be in the mix, like SMU, Texas A&M, and others.”

What’s next
Texas A&M will have until April 21 to finalize their roster through the transfer portal, with KJ Lewis being one of their top targets to replace the departures of Josh Holloway and Ruben Dominguez.
The takeaway
The Aggies are looking to build on their recent success by reloading through the transfer portal, and landing a proven scorer and defender like KJ Lewis would be a major coup as they aim to sustain their status as an NCAA Tournament team.
