The Elgin Lady Wildcats varsity softball team split their games this week, defeating Pflugerville Connally 17-3 in a five-inning run-rule victory before losing to East View 15-11 in a high-scoring affair. The team now stands at 5-15-1 overall and 2-4 in district play.
Why it matters
The Lady Cats' performance this week highlights the team's offensive firepower, with big games from senior Bianca Galindo and freshman Madilyn Wildy against Connally, as well as the team's ability to battle back from early deficits. However, the loss to East View shows the team still has room for improvement, especially on the defensive end.
The details
Against Connally, Elgin was led by Galindo's 3-for-4 game with four RBIs, including two home runs, and Wildy's 4-for-4 performance with three RBIs. Pitcher Katelyn Anderson earned the win, allowing three runs and striking out five. In the loss to East View, the Lady Cats rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to tie the game at 6-6, but a six-run fifth inning by East View proved too much to overcome despite a late push by Elgin.
- The Lady Cats faced Marble Falls after press time on Tuesday, March 25.
- Elgin will return to action at home against Hendrickson on Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m.
