Governor Greg Abbott announced that MP Materials Corp. will expand its presence in Texas by establishing a new rare earth magnet manufacturing campus in Northlake. The $1.25 billion investment will create more than 1,500 corporate, manufacturing, and engineering jobs. The new facility, dubbed '10X', will significantly expand MP Materials' production of high-performance neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets to support U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
Why it matters
This expansion reflects Texas' strength in advanced manufacturing and skilled workforce, and will help accelerate America's leadership in critical semiconductor technologies by reducing reliance on foreign supply chains for essential rare earth magnets. The new facility is part of MP Materials' public-private partnership with the Department of Defense to advance U.S. rare earth and magnet independence.
The details
The new 'MP Materials 10X' campus will be located less than 10 miles from the company's existing Fort Worth operations. The facility will manufacture rare earth NdFeB magnets, which are critical components for advanced semiconductor chip fabrication. MP Materials says the new campus will dramatically expand its production capacity of high-performance NdFeB magnets to support U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.
- Governor Abbott announced the expansion on February 26, 2026.
- The new 'MP Materials 10X' campus is expected to be operational in 2027.
