After more than a decade of starts, stops, and big plans at the former Valley View Center site in Dallas, construction has officially begun on the first building in the long-planned Dallas Midtown development. Beck Ventures announced that dirt is moving for The Premier at Dallas Midtown, a six-story mixed-use apartment building that will be the first vertical project in the massive redevelopment at Preston and LBJ.
Why it matters
The Dallas Midtown project has been in the works for years, envisioned as a dense, walkable urban district comprising housing, offices, and retail. The development faced delays from demolition issues and disputes with the city over necessary infrastructure, but now more than 13 years since the Beck family originally bought the 110-acre former Valley View Center property, things are starting to get going. This marks a significant milestone in the transformation of this strategic North Dallas corridor.
The details
The $85 million Premier at Dallas Midtown project at the southwest corner of Dilbeck and Preston Road will include 300 luxury apartment units, 13,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, and 10,000 square feet of additional amenities. The development is a joint effort by Beck Ventures, Anthem Development, Prime Life Technologies America, NexBank, XIB Capital Partners, Nova Capital, and Cross Architects.
- In 2012, the Beck family acquired the former Valley View Center property.
- The struggling mall officially closed its doors in 2015.
- The mall itself was finally demolished in 2023.
