Prism Health North Texas (PHNTX) has been selected to receive $400,000 in funding over two years through the Gilead Foundation's Community Health Worker (CHW) Compreventive HIV Prevention Initiative. The funding will allow PHNTX to hire a new Community Health Worker dedicated to engaging Black and Latina women in Dallas County, where HIV and STI infection rates remain high, in order to provide culturally responsive education, testing, risk-reduction counseling, and navigation to PrEP services.
Why it matters
Women, especially Black and Latina women, continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV and STIs in Texas and Dallas County. This funding allows PHNTX to expand its long-standing work in HIV prevention by bringing these critical services directly to women in the community, helping to reduce stigma and ensure women have the knowledge and resources to protect their sexual health.
The details
Through the $400,000 in funding, PHNTX will hire a new Community Health Worker who will work alongside the organization's Community Marketing Manager to integrate HIV and STI prevention, testing, and treatment education into routine women's healthcare visits at PHNTX clinics and trusted community settings. The CHW will offer risk-reduction counseling, navigation to PrEP, and other prevention services to help reduce women's risk of acquiring HIV and STIs.
- PHNTX announced the funding on March 11, 2026.
- The two-year grant period will begin immediately.

A community health organization that has provided comprehensive healthcare services, including HIV and sexual health services, to North Texans for 40 years.
Gilead Foundation
A philanthropic organization that has provided a $12 million investment in community-based organizations across 14 states and the District of Columbia to expand culturally responsive, CHW-led HIV prevention models.

What they’re saying
“Women are often left out of conversations about HIV prevention and treatment even though infection rates among women remain a serious concern in Texas and here in Dallas County. This funding allows us to expand the work PHNTX has done for decades in HIV prevention and bring those services directly to women in our community, helping them better understand their risk and the prevention options available to them.”
