JT Toppin, a senior forward for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, has been named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. This is Toppin's third time receiving the honor this season. He was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the fourth time on Monday. Toppin had a dominant performance with 31 points and 13 rebounds to help lead Texas Tech to a 78-75 overtime win at then-No. 1 Arizona last Saturday. He also matched a career-high with 18 rebounds and scored 16 points in a home win over Colorado.

Why it matters

Toppin's recognition as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week highlights his outstanding play this season for the 13th-ranked Red Raiders. As a preseason All-American and the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, Toppin has lived up to the hype, leading the nation in field goals made and the Big 12 in several key statistical categories.

The details

Toppin's performance against Arizona was only the second time in NCAA history a player recorded a 30-point double-double in a road win over a No. 1-ranked opponent. He joins North Carolina's Luke Maye, who had 30 points and 15 rebounds in a win at Duke in 2019. Toppin also became only the second Big 12 player to accomplish that feat against a No. 1 team, with West Virginia's Devin Williams being the first in 2016.

  • Toppin earned his third Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week selection this season.
  • Toppin was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the fourth time on Monday, February 17, 2026.
