The Brownwood Lady Lions softball team dropped their third consecutive District 6-4A contest, falling 5-2 to the Mineral Wells Lady Rams. Brownwood had taken an early 2-0 lead, but Mineral Wells scored all five of their runs in the final two innings to rally for the victory.

Why it matters

The loss drops the Lady Lions to 2-5 in district play and fifth place in the standings, with only the top four teams advancing to the playoffs. Brownwood had won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, but were unable to complete the season sweep against Mineral Wells.

The details

The Lady Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Nevaeh Perez scored on a wild pitch. Brownwood extended the advantage to 2-0 in the fifth when Hanah Campos drove in Lila Mares with a sacrifice fly. But Mineral Wells stormed back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Lady Rams then added two insurance runs in the sixth to seal the victory.
