The annual Stars of Texas Paint-Off competition, sponsored by the Arts Council of Brownwood, showcased the talents of 16 local artists over a 6-hour period on February 21st. Brenda Shaw of Brownwood won the $500 first prize for her oil stick landscape, while June Musick, also from Brownwood, received $250 for her second-place watercolor/gouache painting.
Why it matters
The Stars of Texas Paint-Off is a long-running annual event that celebrates the vibrant arts community in Brownwood, providing local artists an opportunity to showcase their skills and earn recognition. The competition helps drive interest and support for the visual arts in the region.
The details
Each of the 16 participating artists had 6 hours to complete their 2D artwork, which was then made available for purchase through a silent auction. Proceeds from the sales went to the artists, minus a small commission to the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. Judging the event was Faith Archambeau, a multimedia artist and gallery manager at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene.
