The Lockhart Independent School District Board of Trustees has approved an innovative housing partnership with Upward Communities and Public Private Development Corporation. The approved community, Wildflower at Juniper Springs, will provide 117 homes, with approximately 90% being single-family residences and a majority offering three- to four-bedroom homes, to give Lockhart ISD staff attainable housing options.

Why it matters

Across Central Texas, housing costs have increased by roughly 40% over the past decade, making it increasingly difficult for educators and staff to live in the communities they serve. This partnership aims to address this challenge and support Lockhart ISD employees by reducing long commutes and strengthening the district's connection to the local community.

The details

The Wildflower at Juniper Springs community will be developed by Upward Communities and built by BOSC Construction, a Perry Homes company. The project comes after 18 months of planning and collaboration to ensure it meets the needs of district staff. Currently, about 70% of LISD school teachers commute from outside of the district, and the new housing development is expected to help address this issue.

  • The Lockhart ISD Board of Trustees approved the housing partnership on Monday, April 8, 2026.
  • Model homes are expected to become available for viewing and pre-leasing in August 2026.
