Tesla has reached a major milestone in the production of its dedicated autonomous robotaxi, the Cybercab, at its Gigafactory Texas facility. Expert drone pilot Joe Tegtmeyer captured footage showing a significant surge in Cybercab activity, with 25 units spotted across the factory grounds - the largest single grouping of these vehicles seen by the public so far.
Why it matters
The increase in visible Cybercab inventory suggests Tesla is refining its 'unboxed' manufacturing process and moving closer to full-scale volume production of its sub-$30,000 two-seater autonomous vehicle. This aligns with Elon Musk's previous statements about the ramp-up timeline, and the presence of units at the crash testing site indicates Tesla is deep into the safety certification process.
The details
Tegtmeyer's footage showed 14 Cybercabs parked in a tight formation directly outside the factory exit, 9 units at the crash testing facility, and 2 others at the west End-of-Line facility. Several additional units were also seen driving around the grounds, indicating active dynamic testing is now a constant part of the factory's operations. This jump from a few scattered prototypes to dozens of finished units suggests Tesla is refining its revolutionary 'unboxed' manufacturing process.
- In mid-February, the first production Cybercab rolled off the line at Giga Texas.
- On March 3, 2026, drone footage captured the largest grouping of Cybercabs seen by the public so far.

Elon Musk
The CEO of Tesla, who has previously indicated that while the early Cybercab ramp would be measured, full-scale volume production is targeted to begin in April.
What they’re saying
“Tesla has reached a major turning point at Gigafactory Texas as the company moves closer to mass-producing its dedicated autonomous robotaxi.”
— Joe Tegtmeyer, Expert drone pilot
What’s next
Tesla is expected to begin full-scale volume production of the Cybercab in April, following the completion of the structural validation and safety certification process.
The takeaway
Tesla's ramp-up of Cybercab production at Giga Texas signals the company's progress towards mass-producing its affordable, fully autonomous vehicle, which could have significant implications for the future of transportation and the automotive industry.
