The Texas Longhorns football team has added another veteran wide receiver to their roster, as Sterling Berkhalter announced he is transferring to Texas. Berkhalter, who will be in his sixth college football season, spent the last year at Wake Forest where he had a career-high 30 receptions for 416 yards and two touchdowns.
Why it matters
The Longhorns lost some key wide receiver talent to the transfer portal, so adding an experienced player like Berkhalter helps bolster their receiving corps as they look to build on a strong 2025 season. Berkhalter provides depth and veteran leadership to a wide receiver room that includes returners Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V, as well as transfer Cam Coleman.
The details
Berkhalter, a 6-foot-3, 203-pound wideout, was third on the Wake Forest team last season in catches and receiving yards. Prior to his time with the Demon Deacons, he spent two seasons each at Cincinnati and North Carolina A&T. His addition comes after the Longhorns saw DeAndre Moore and Parker Livingstone enter the transfer portal.
- Berkhalter announced his transfer to Texas on Friday, January 30, 2026.
- He will suit up for the Longhorns in the 2026 season, which opens on September 5 when Texas hosts Texas State.

What’s next
Berkhalter will join the Texas Longhorns for the 2026 season, where he will look to make an immediate impact and help the team build on their success from the previous year.
The takeaway
The addition of veteran wide receiver Sterling Berkhalter is a significant boost for the Texas Longhorns as they look to reload their receiving corps. Berkhalter's experience and production at the college level should provide a steady presence in the passing game alongside the team's other returning and incoming talent at the position.
