The Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Repair Cafe event in April and is seeking volunteers over the age of 50 with skills in sewing, bicycle repair, small appliance repair, furniture/woodworking, computer/electronics repair, and knife sharpening to help community members fix their broken items for free.
Why it matters
The Repair Cafe aims to reduce waste by giving new life to damaged goods and empowering residents who may not have the skills or means to repair items on their own. It also fosters a sense of community by connecting skilled volunteers with those in need.
The details
The Repair Cafe will take place at the Warford Activity Center, where community members can bring in their broken items and receive free repairs from the volunteer experts. The Parks and Recreation Department is specifically seeking volunteers over 50 with experience in areas like sewing, bicycle repair, small appliance repair, furniture/woodworking, computer/electronics repair, and knife sharpening.
- The Repair Cafe is scheduled for April 2026.
- Volunteer sign-ups are open now through the end of March 2026.
