The Brownwood Lady Lions track team secured their second consecutive meet championship at the Steve Goben Invitational in Burleson, Texas on Thursday. The reigning Class 4A state champions produced 89 points, edging out runner-up Class 6A Mansfield (87.5 points) and third-place Class 5A Aledo (65.5 points). The Lady Lions won the 4x100 relay, the 4x200 relay, and had several other top finishes despite technical difficulties caused by the rainy weather.
Why it matters
The Lady Lions' continued dominance at the 5A level, even as the reigning 4A state champions, demonstrates their ability to compete at the highest levels of Texas high school track and field. This win builds momentum for the team as they prepare for the San Angelo Relays and their home Bluebonnet Relays in the coming weeks.
The details
The Lady Lions' 4x100 relay team of Icess Hall, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin, and Aniah Hines won the event in 47.78 seconds. Phillips also won the 200 meters in 25.44 seconds, and the 4x200 relay team of the same four athletes had the fastest time of the day at 1:42.53. Due to weather issues, the times for the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles were not included, but the Lady Lions still managed to score points in those events.
- The meet took place on Thursday, March 6, 2026.
- The Lady Lions will next compete at the San Angelo Relays on March 13-14, 2026.
