The Vanderbilt track and field team will host the Music City Challenge on Friday and Saturday to close out its indoor regular season. The Commodores are coming off a strong performance at the Bob Pollock Invitational and John Thomas Terrier Classic, where they broke five school records and recorded 10 program all-time top 10 performances.
Why it matters
The Music City Challenge provides Vanderbilt's track and field athletes one final opportunity to compete at home before the SEC Indoor Championships. The Commodores have several event squads and individual athletes ranked among the nation's best, making this a key meet ahead of the postseason.
The details
At the previous meets, standout performances included Janie Ford winning the long jump and breaking the school record, Falon Spearman resetting her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles, and Lily Kriegel setting a new program mark in the 3,000 meters. The Commodores also had their 4x400-meter relay team break the school record. Overall, Vanderbilt has three event squads ranked in the top 10 nationally, including the 60-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump.
