Published on Mar. 2, 2026

The West Tennessee Violent Crime and Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a home in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, after a 2-year-old living in the residence previously overdosed on fentanyl in November 2025. During the search, agents found a large amount of fentanyl, drug diluting agents, and other paraphernalia, as well as children still living in the home. A male suspect, Terrence Scott, was arrested and faces multiple charges related to drug possession and child endangerment.

Why it matters

This incident highlights the ongoing opioid crisis and the devastating impact it can have on vulnerable populations, including young children. It also raises concerns about the ability of authorities to effectively intervene and protect children in homes where drug use and trafficking are present.

The details

During the search warrant, agents discovered a large amount of fentanyl, as well as mannitol (a substance used to dilute pure fentanyl), digital scales, empty bottles of Phenergan syrup, and a pill grinder in the master bedroom, all within reach of an infant's car seat. A male suspect, 28-year-old Terrence Scott, was seen coming from the bathroom, where agents found fentanyl, a one-dollar bill, aluminum foil, and a plastic bag floating in the toilet. Additional fentanyl was found in the pipes after the toilet was removed from the floor.
