The Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a multi-player, multi-pick trade with the Utah Jazz, sending star center Jaren Jackson Jr., along with John Konchar, Jock Landale, and Vince Williams Jr., to Utah in exchange for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang, and three future first-round draft picks.
Why it matters
The trade signals a major shift in the Grizzlies' direction, as they move on from Jackson, a two-time All-Star and the 2022–23 Defensive Player of the Year. With this deal, Memphis now controls 12 first-round picks over the next seven years, trailing only Oklahoma City and Brooklyn, as they look to rebuild around Ja Morant.
The details
In the deal, the Grizzlies are also sending out Konchar, Landale, and Williams Jr., while the Jazz are parting with Clayton Jr., Anderson, Hendricks, and Niang. Anderson returns to Memphis after previously playing there from 2018 to 2022, while Hendricks and Clayton Jr. give the Grizzlies two young prospects. Niang has yet to appear this season due to injury.
- The trade was agreed to on February 4, 2026, ahead of the NBA trade deadline.
The players
Jaren Jackson Jr.
A two-time All-Star and the 2022–23 Defensive Player of the Year, Jackson spent his entire eight-year career with the Grizzlies and was a central figure in the team's rise alongside Ja Morant.
Walter Clayton Jr.
The 18th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Clayton Jr. is one of the young prospects the Grizzlies are receiving in the trade.
Taylor Hendricks
The ninth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Hendricks is another young prospect joining the Grizzlies in the deal.
What’s next
The Grizzlies will look to build around Ja Morant and integrate the new players acquired in the trade, while the Jazz will aim to make the most of their new star in Jaren Jackson Jr.
The takeaway
This blockbuster trade showcases the Grizzlies' willingness to make bold moves as they look to the future, while the Jazz have added a proven two-way star to their roster as they try to turn their season around.
