After two successful years at their first location in Kingsport, Tennessee, the owners of 6ix Grist & Grind Brewhouse, Cory and Scott Anderson, have decided to open a second location of their business at 117 Spring Street in downtown Johnson City. The new brewery is expected to open in late spring 2026, with plans to replicate the vibe and menu of the original location while also establishing its own unique identity within the thriving Johnson City brewing community.
Why it matters
The addition of 6ix Grist & Grind Brewhouse to downtown Johnson City represents the continued growth and popularity of craft brewing in the region. As more breweries open and cluster together, they are able to attract a larger customer base and create a vibrant beer culture that draws people to the area.
The details
Cory and Scott Anderson signed the lease for the new 6ix Grist & Grind location just 10 minutes before their two-year anniversary party in November 2025. The space requires minimal renovations, and the owners plan to transfer the same theme and much of the menu from the original Kingsport location. While there are already several breweries in downtown Johnson City, the Andersons see the brewing community as collaborative rather than competitive, with each taproom offering a unique experience that attracts craft beer enthusiasts.

What they’re saying
“We don't want to be big – we want to stay small neighborhood-style. We said, 'Let's just look around.' We found a spot, and we're finally smooth running...We almost let it go, but we were like that location is amazing, and we just decided to jump.”
— Cory Anderson, Co-owner
“We have a really weird industry that we all support each other [in]. It is competition, but everybody does it so different that when you have breweries closer together, it brings people to an area that like the brewing culture. They like not just craft beer, but the culture of each taproom, and they'll hop. It draws people together.”
— Cory Anderson, Co-owner
