After a trip to Texas inspired them with the use of limestone and plaster, designers Amy Mobley and Katie Norrid of City Hill Design set out to bring that same patina to a new build in Collierville, Tennessee. The result is a home that feels far more storied than its fresh drywall might suggest, with rich woods, textural plaster, timeworn stone, and unlacquered brass creating a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Rather than a showpiece, the team pictured the home as a backdrop for everyday life, with art and thoughtful details adding layers of personality.

Why it matters

In an era of cookie-cutter new construction, this Tennessee home stands out for its commitment to natural materials and a lived-in aesthetic. By eschewing stark white paint and focusing on tones and textures that make the space feel cozy and inviting, the designers have created a home that feels both polished and practical, ready to host generations of memories.

The details

To achieve the desired patina, the designers worked to make new elements like the limestone fireplace mantel feel weathered and timeworn. They also incorporated thoughtful details like chamfered edges, a leather-wrapped stair rail, and art that tells a story. The result is a home that feels ready to hold generations of stories, even though it's brand new.

  • The designers were inspired by a trip to Texas in the months prior to the home's construction.
  • The home was completed in early 2026.
