State Representative Ronnie Glynn, a retired Army Master Sergeant who represents House District 67 in Clarksville, welcomed children of military service members to the Tennessee State Capitol on March 30, 2026 for the fourth annual Military Kids Day on the Hill. ROTC students from Rossview High School in Clarksville met with Glynn and other lawmakers, as well as a representative from the Department of Veterans Services, to learn about state government, Tennessee history, and the Capitol building.

Why it matters

With many Fort Campbell service members currently deployed, this annual event provides an opportunity for military families to take a break from the stresses of deployment and connect with state lawmakers. The event also educates the next generation about the role of state government and the importance of civic engagement.

The details

During the event, the Clarksville students learned about key figures in Tennessee history, visited historical parks, and toured the Tennessee State Capitol building. Representative Glynn said the gathering served a dual purpose - educating the students about state government while also giving military families a chance to take their minds off the challenges of deployment for a little while.

What they’re saying

“We had a great turnout of military kids that really wanted to learn about government. At a time when Fort Campbell service members are deploying into combat, giving them an opportunity to take their minds off the stress of deployment for a little while, is an honor.”

— Ronnie Glynn, State Representative

The takeaway

This annual event demonstrates how state lawmakers can support military families and educate the next generation about civic engagement, even as active-duty service members face the challenges of deployment. The partnership between Representative Glynn, the Rossview High School ROTC, and the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services highlights the importance of community-based initiatives that honor the sacrifices of military families.
